New York Considers Ban on Exotic Animals in Entertainment.

New York City may be on the verge of outlawing the use of exotic animals for entertainment purposes, a move which would effect zoos and circuses most of all. The law would essentially end the operation of the notorious Barnum and Bailey Circus in New York City.
The proposal put forth by the city counsel of New York is the second major blow to the Barnum and Bailey Circus in recent months. The organization is currently involved in a serious legal battle over charges of animal cruelty. If the proposal passes in New York, it has the potential to set off a series of similar bans from conscientious communities around the United States.
Not only is this proposal important to help save the lives of dozens of elephants, it also would prevent cruelty toward dolphins, walruses, hippopotamuses, giraffes, koalas, kinkajou, sloths, tarantulas, rhinoceroses and armadillos used for entertainment.
