Friday Vegan Spotlight: Saul Williams

Saul Williams is an actor, poet, musician, and dedicated vegan.  Before he sold his music to sweatshop kings Nike, Saul made the choice to distance himself from the horrors of factory farming by changing the way he ate.

Last fall, Saul made a heartfelt plea to fans encouraging them to look inside themselves and develop compassion in the kitchen. The plea included this statement:

Everyday, our species participates in the mass genocide of other species without care or concern or even questioning whether the violence that we ingest and condone plays any role in our apathetic support of the war machine we have become. How is it that we as human beings can represent both the highest and most developed and lowest and least concerned forms of intelligence of any living species? Are we simply glued to age-old barbaric traditions that cloud our senses and render us inhumane in our dependence on comfort foods and practices? Is our dependence on foreign oil the only thing we need to curb? What about not so foreign species?

Saul Williams is a truly gifted poet that has produced many startling works of art in the last decade including my all-time favorite Said the Shotgun to the Head. Saul is in the spotlight for using his talent to shed light on the cruelty that animals face today in factory farms.  Thanks Saul for all that you do.  I just wish you’d say no to Nike.
