Ripoff Reality TV Exterminators.

Animal Planet continues their downward spiral with yet another show with negative depictions of animals and what’s worse is that the show is a total ripoff.

The channel that gave the world Whale Wars, brings us a reality-comedy about two lovable doofs exterminating animals. Rat Busters follows Jimmy and Michael, two exterminators from Magic Exterminating in Queens. Animal Planet promotes that show as the tale of “a dynamic duo with a brother-like kinship as they tackle rat families bigger than their own, and other metropolitan pests like roaches, mice, bedbugs, raccoons, and pigeons.” 

There are a couple things wrong with this show. First, its just more of the same Animal Planet programming that depicts animals as objects to be eaten, forced to entertain, and killed. Animal Planet says it’s part of their strategy to go from “animal content for animal lovers” to “raw and real” programming. Second, the whole idea is a ripoff of another reality show on a different network. The A&E channel has already had a reality show about exterminators for four years and it sucks just as much as this one certainly will.

The only thing worse than a dumb idea is a dumb idea that was stolen from someone else.
