Meat Heats, Plants Cool.

Current Biology has published new research that suggests a global shift in agriculture that produces plants with more reflective leafs could help cool North America by 1C. One degree Celsius may not seem like very much but researchers suggest that it would be a reduction in 1/5 of North America’s warming. This is more evidence that more plants, not animals, is the answer to global climate change.

An example of a more reflective crop would be corn vs. wheat. Researchers admit that switching a large portion of agriculture from wheat to corn may not be realistic however, if a small portion of the entire world’s wheat production was switched to corn, we would see a huge impact in warming.

This is a unique idea to stop warming at a time when unique ideas are very needed. I’m glad people are trying to be creative and employ any tactics necessary to save the planet. Here’s the best idea of all, GO VEGAN!
