Artist Tattoos Pigs.

Wim Delvoye tattoos pigs. He was ran out of Europe because his form of “art” is seen as animal cruelty and therefore against the law. In order to create the art that he wanted he was forced to move to China where he works today.
With all the horrid things that happen to millions of pigs across Europe everyday in the name of “dinner,” it’s a little shocking that tattooing can be illegal when gestation crates, forced skull cracking, and a slitting a throat are deemed “humane.”
Delvoye has purchased an organic farm where he raises the pigs in relative luxury. He allows them to live out their lives until they die a natural death. Wim Delvoye does not slaughter/eat the pigs because Wim Delvoye in a vegetarian.
Maybe Delvoye is using live pigs as a canvass to help express their beauty. Maybe he’s just weird. Maybe being ran out Europe for animal cruelty was his way of pointing out the absurdity of the animal welfare system. Are our appetites really bigger than our hearts?
What do you think of Wil Delvoye’s art?
