The Father of the Tofurky

When Seth Tibbot invented the Tofurky, he revolutionized vegan holidays forever. The Wall Street Journal has a fascinating interview with the father of the Tofurky where he explains all about how he became vegetarian and created Turtle Island Foods Inc.
As a vegan I’m always asked, “If you can’t eat animal products, what CAN you eat?” I always answer “anything” because the truth is, I can eat everything a non-vegan can just made from cruelty free ingredients. Whether it’s butter, turkey, burgers, steak, hot dogs, eggs, or cake you can make a vegan version of ANYTHING!!! And the best part is IT TASTES BETTER and doesn’t make you fat.
Tofurky definitely changed my holidays and special events by providing a wonderful and delicious main course that even non-vegans will drool over. One of my favorite parts of this interview is when Seth is asked about the response he has received from customers:
“Customers would say ‘this is the product we’ve been waiting years for’ and ‘we no longer feel like second-class citizens at the dinner table.’”
People look at vegans like we are deprived and pathetic when we are actually much happier with our dietary choices than non-vegans are with theirs. Ive heard more complaints about food from non-vegans than vegans. It always seems undercooked, overcooked, dry, in need of ketchup, or gives them the runs. The tofurkey is a prime example of a beautiful and complex tasting food that is idiot proof and versatile for any occasion.
Seth Tibbot is my hero.
