CAMPAIGN: End Hermit Crab Cruelty in One Minute.
The Ben Franklin general store in Cheney Washington sells hermit crabs that live in severe emotional and nutritional stress.
Visits to the store reveal that water dishes for the crabs are either dry and covered in green algae are not in the tank at all. This picture shows the tank without water the morning of the 24th. I returned later that day to find that the water dish was still not there! The crabs had gone at least one full day without water. The indentation in the gravel is where a water dish once sat.
Crabs grow thirsty and scared from the conditions they are under and store employees say the crabs hide nearly 24 hours a day until they die. In fact, all the crabs in this tank have died except one (the one seen hiding in the bottom right corner)
Crabs often live alone in the tank, which is a far cry from their colonies in the wild were they live with over 100 other crabs.
The sale of hermit crabs is inhumane and Ben Franklin’s has refused to stop this practice after they have been educated on the issue.
Please sign the petition to agree to stop shopping at Ben Franklin’s until they have put an end to the cruelty by stopping the future sale of hermit crabs.
A letter will be personally delivered to Ben Franklin’s for every signature collected so lets use overwhelming force to shut this operation down.
Please re-post this article and link everywhere you can so we can end this cruelty today!
