Support Grows for CA Foie Gras Ban.
The West Hollywood City Council has just endorsed California’s upcoming ban on the sale of Foie Gras. The Council called Foie Gras “the product of animal torture” and I couldn’t agree more.
Foie Gras is produced by force feeding ducks until their livers become bloated and often diseased. Foie Gras is seen as a delicacy among those who believe that salad should be served with a side of sadism. Some however, feel that fine dining shouldn’t be the cause so much guilt. World Class chef Wolfgang Puck has introduced a “nine-point animal welfare program for all of his restaurants that eliminates the use of eggs from battery cages, veal and pork from confinement crates and foie gras.” Way to go Wolfgang now all you have to do is make a vegan restaurant and you’d have my business. This might be a good idea considering that the Associated Press is reporting that upscale vegan dining is a booming market.
The California ban on the sale of foie gras is set to take effect in 2012.
