Senate Bill Allows Backyard Slaughterhouses.

Oppose Washington State Senate Bill 5350
This bill expands a previous bill from 2003 which allows farmers with fewer than 1,000 chickens to slaughter the animals on their property, provided they pay $75 for a permit. Senate Bill 5350 adds all birds, including turkeys and ducks, to this regulation.
If this bill passes it will allow farmers to slaughter more animals on their property. This could stimulate the expansion of backyard farming and slaughter facilities for turkeys, geese, ducks, and other birds, allowing even more animals to be killed in a virtually unregulated environment.
Some people think that this bill will create a more local and friendly farm rather than the industrial size farms we see today. The problem is that contributing to the suffering and abuse of animals is wrong whether it be on a factory or a “family” farm.
