Charges for Factory Farmed Bird Abuse.

Charges for Factory Farmed Bird Abuse.

A grand jury has issued 19 indictments for cruelty to animals against three former employees of Aviagen Turkeys, Inc. and 11 of those indictments are on felony charges. This is the first time in U.S. history that factory-farm employees have faced felony cruelty-to-animals charges for abusing birds.

Workers were caught on camera stomping, kicking, throwing, and killing turkeys in a horrific display of cruelty. Avigen Inc. refused to take the claims seriously and lied to the press telling them that action would be taken against the workers. The workers remained employed and now they face serious time in prison on felony animal abuse charges.

Sadly, this type of animal abuse in factory farms is all too common. However, the case against is precedent setting and we can expect to see many more factory farm employees charged with cruelty to animals in the future.
