Restaurant Sells Foie Gras Donuts.

Restaurant Sells Foie Gras Donuts.

foie gras

The Do or Dine restaurant in New York City has rolled out their newest and surely most controversial menu item, the $11 foie gras donut.

Each greasy donut is filled with a jelly mixture of fatty duck liver foie gras, an artery’s worst nightmare. A whole new level of gluttony has been brought into the world with this one. Not surprisingly however, the donuts seem to be getting more press than customers.

Do or Dine’s owners tell the Gothamist that the $11 donuts don’t bring in much business, and less than 30 are sold each week. When asked if they would ever remove the donut from their menu to avoid the activist outcry the owner said “we’re not attached to anything on the menu.” Sounds promising to me.

It’s no surprise that people have reacted so strongly to the news of this disgusting dessert. Foie gras is one of the most inhumane sectors of animal agriculture and is widely criticized by people from all walks of life. The dish is produced by using metal tubes to force-feed ducks until their liver swells to 10 times a healthy size. Not an image you want in your head when biting into a fried pastry.

Do or Dine may forever be damaged by their decision to serve foie gras donuts. The move has possibly turned away countless new customers forever. There is hope though that they will learn the err of the ways and maybe we can help…

Convince the Do or Dine do the right thing, sign the “no foie gras donut” petition here.
