Nike Re-signs Michael Vick.

After serving 19-months in prison on felony animal cruelty charges, Michael Vick has been re-signed for a Nike endorsement deal for an undisclosed amount.
Vick was dropped by Nike in 2007 after he was accused of felony animal cruelty in connection with his dogfighting operation. On his compound, referred to as “Bad Newz Kennels,” dozens of dogs were drowned, shot, and electrocuted to death. At the time, Nike called the situation “serious and highly disturbing.” It seems that Vick’s successful 2010 season has helped Nike forget all about how they used to feel.
The value of the Nike endorsement is unpublished but many people are already saying the amount won’t be enough to pay all Vick’s debts. Last year it was reported that Vick still owed creditors over $12 million and is forced to put two-thirds of every dollar back into his debts. Because he filed for bankruptcy in 2008, Vick is forced to live on an allowance, all of his expenses are taken directly out of his paychecks, and purchases are limited by the court.
It’s sad that Nike took Vick back after everything he did. Being a good player doesn’t make up for the incredible cruelty he inflicted on so many dogs. This endorsement will be great for Vick but in the long run will probably do damage Nike’s reputation.
