Blogger Jailed For Bad Beef Review.

A blogger in Taiwan has been sentenced to 30 days in jail, two years probation, and will be forced to pay a NT$200,000 (US $7,000) fine for saying a restaurant served bad beef noodles.

The blogger criticized the restaurant on her blog for serving beef noodles that were “too salty.” She also added that restaurant had unsanitary conditions as evidenced by the number of cockroaches with whom she shared the dining room. Her review received 60,000 hits infuriated the restaurant.

The restaurant ended up suing the blogger for defamation. The High Court ruled against the blogger finding her comments “exceed reasonable bounds,” handing down the sentence of 30 days in jail, two years probation, and a NT$200,000 (US $7,000) award to the restaurant for lost revenue.

Bad move on behalf of the salty beef noodle restaurant. They should spend more time refining their recipes and less time imprisoning food bloggers if they really wanted to make up some lost revenue.
