Israel’s Cottage Cheese Rebellion.

If consumer advocates get their way, July in Israel will forever be known as the month of the cottage cheese rebellion.
In response to the rising cost of food and the removal of government price controls, consumer advocates in Israel are planning a massive social media driven campaign. The campaign will focus on targeted boycotts of a different food staple each month. The first boycott will be organized around cheese products, specifically cottage cheese. The lumpy cheese is a breakfast table mainstay for millions of Israelis and is currently 50% more expensive in Israel than in Europe.
The boycott starts July 1st and runs the entire month. Nearly 32,000 Israelis have joined the boycott on facebook and thousands more are expected to participate offline. Lumpy and soggy cottage cheese accounts for 28% of all cheese sales in israel so activists expect to put a substantial dent in the market with this boycott.
In July they boycott cottage cheese. Let’s hope that in August they boycott meat too.
