Manolo Blahnik Treats Dairy Cows ‘Like Ladies.’

Two majority owners of the fashion line Manolo Blahnik are trying their hand at a new business venture, high-end dairy.

Blahnik’s owners George Malkemus and Tony Yurgaitis recently purchased a $5 million dairy preprocessing plant in Connecticut where they’ve begun to produce very expensive milk and cheese. Their brand, Arethusa, is already available in 23 retail outlets, including Whole Foods.

Aethusa’s milk sells for $4.49 per half gallon, more than twice the National average. The owners seems be using the same business model to sell milk that they use for their expensive shoe line. Sell a product for more than it’s worth to make consumers believe that the product is superior even though it’s the same crappy product everyone else is making.

Aethusa’s claims their cows are treated “like ladies,” munching on protein-enriched hay, sleeping on soft Canadian wood shavings, and having their bodies vacuumed daily in the “spa room.” There is even a sign that hangs over the barn that says “every cow in the barn is a lady, treat her as such.”

I know all my lady friends LOVE protein-enriched hay, yum.  This is just too weird. Only time will tell if consumers will take the bait and start paying double for milk from cows that are treated like true ladies.
