Blogs More Influential Than Celebs.

A new Social Media Matters study shows that bloggers are nearly twice as influential at affecting people’s decisions as celebrity endorsements.
The study looked at women who use social media networks (i.e. twitter, facebook, tumblr, etc.) and found that 20 percent were likely to purchase a product that was promoted by a blogger vs. 12 percent for a celebrity endorsement.
It’s basic human psychology. People are more likely to listen to someone they relate to, someone without ulterior motives. Most people can’t relate to multimillionaire celebs who get $50,000 just to tweet about vodka. It could taste like garbage or make you gain 200 pounds a day and they would still tell you to buy it. The celebrity just wants to get paid. A regular person blogging about how veganism changed their life or about how much they like Daiya cheese is going to have a bigger influence because their intentions are pure.
This has huge implications for people interested in promoting animal rights and veganism online. Reblogging a post, ‘liking’ a vegan blog on facebook (wink wink), or writing your own blog could do more to change someone’s mind than a million dollar ad campaign staring the flavor-of-the-week celebrity.
