Animal Testing Proves People Like French Fries.

A study published in the Journal of Neuroscience used cruel testing methods on rats to prove that people feel good about eating French fries and other salty foods.
The study suggests that elevated levels of salt in the body reduce stress and increase a hormone called oxytocin (i.e. the love hormone). Oxytocin helps calm you down and reduces anxiety. This could explain why we reach for salty foods like French fries when we are stressed.
For the experiment, rats were forcibly strapped down to induce stress while being tested. Since the study used rats, we can’t say for certain that the results are 100% transferable to humans.
Do we not know why people like French fries?
If scientists posted fliers around town that offered people who were stressed free French fries in exchange for participation in the study, they’d have an overwhelming number of volunteers. It’s animal experiments like this that really have me concerned over the mental stability of the scientific community.
