UK to Ban Animal Circuses.

UK to Ban Animal Circuses.

Since footage surfaced of Bobby Roberts Super Circus employees beating an elephant with a pitchfork, the UK Environmental Secretary has been pushing to impose a nationwide ban on circuses that use wild animals.

The head of the RSPCA, Ros Clubb, feels like the ban is long overdue saying “it’s about time that in Britain we show we are really a nation of animal lovers.”

The Environment Secretary cited thousands of concerned letters and calls as the main reason the government is pursuing an animal circus ban. Thousands of people have written and called to protest circus animal mistreatment, physical abuse, and torment.

In circuses, animals are beaten and manipulated to perform unnatural tricks. For the majority of the year, animals are forced onto trains and into trucks that travel all over the globe through all types of weather. Huge elephants, that travel over 35 miles a day in the wild, are shackled in place for all but a few hours of the day.

If/when the ban passes, the UK will join the many other countries that have banned animal circuses in recent years. Let’s hope the US is next.
