Gulf Seafood Still Dangerous.

Gulf Seafood Still Dangerous.

gulf coast shrimp

Renowned environmental toxicologists have discovered dangerous crude oil toxins in oysters, shrimp, crabs, and fish caught off the Gulf Coast far from the Deep Water Horizon oil spill.

Scientists and fishmen are expressing concern about the tainted sea life because the toxins can’t be detected through smell, taste, or touch.  Toxicologists are alarmed because BP is claiming areas that have tested positive for dangerous levels of hydrocarbons as “clean.”  Scientists fear that the ocean and the bordering wetlands will “take generations to heal.” Generations without another oil spill that is.

The State of Louisiana and the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) have both come out publicly to encourage people to eat gulf coast seafood.  They claim that you would have to eat 1,575 jumbo shrimp a day to exceed contamination limits.

When in doubt, I tend to listen to the scientific opinions of people who don’t stand to gain financially from positive results. I can’t help but be reminded of when Gulf seafood was first declared safe by the FDA and the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration through the use of “rigorous sensory analysis” aka “the sniff test.”

I’ve done my own rigorous sensory analysis and this whole business smells foul.
