Damaging New Health Report on Meat.

Damaging New Health Report on Meat.

The meat industry is bracing for what could be the most damaging report on the negative health effects of eating meat ever published.  Set to be released this week, the UK Government report will recommend that red meat consumption be limited to 2.5oz a day or 1-pound a week to limit the risk of cancer.

The report will focus on the link between meat consumption and the increased risk of colon cancer.  Bad news for the meat industry who’ve been plagued for years by an endless stream of studies that show a strong link between the two.  In 2005, a European study found that people who ate more than 5oz of meat a day increased their risk of colon cancer by one-third.

The British Meat Processors Association is refusing to comment but we can imagine they will object to everything negative that will be revealed in the report.

Recommending that consumers avoid eating more than 2.5oz a day begs the question, why even eat meat at all?  Two-and-a-half ounces of meat is equivalent of 3 small pieces of bacon or one piece of sausage.  If your meat intake is that low anyway, you might as well go vegetarian or even vegan.  At least then you wouldn’t have to worry about exceeding your 1-pound a week limit.
