China Bans Animal Circuses.

A new animal welfare law in China has banned animal circuses and put stronger regulations on circus’ zoo functions.  In China, animals are forced to perform bizarre entertainment acts at zoos essentially making them a circus.  

After some disturbing news last week about seal meat being sold in China, I was beginning to think that it was going to be a long time before animal rights even entered into the debate there.  Thankfully I was wrong.  

Animal rights groups in China worked hard to pass this landmark legislation after years of documenting the cruel and unusal conditions at the country’s state run zoos/circuses.  Circus owners have defended their operations saying that they are teaching animals the tricks they need to know to become “stars.”

It’s estimated that around 300 zoos/circuses will be shut down completely.

Can’t wait until this day comes in the United States.
