Junk Food You Didn't Know Was Vegan.

Junk Food You Didn’t Know Was Vegan.

       spicy sweet dortios are vegan

It’s time to get rid of the myth that vegans are all picky, anal, annoying, and 100% healthy eaters.  We don’t all grow our own mung beans and make organic cashew cheese.  Lots of us (myself in particular) love the greasy/kinda bad for you junk foods.  The great thing about being vegan though is that even the junk food is not nearly as bad for you and non-vegan junk food (think oberto pepperoni sticks and cheese wiz).

On a day like today, I just want to sit on the couch watching 48 Hours Mystery, nursing a hangover, and eating some fabulous junk food - most of which people don’t even know is vegan.  Here are my favorites:

Spicy Sweet Chili Doritos.

- These things are just as cheesy as the nacho cheese Doritos and have an added spicy and sweet kick.  You won’t believe they’re vegan.  The first time  had them I could not stop reading the ingredients over and over.  Unfortunately, the nacho cheese Doritos aren’t even vegetarian so these are a good option for anyone at any level of vegdom.

Oreos.

- If you’ve been vegan for awhile you might already know this one but non-vegans tend to be blown away.  Yes, Oreos are vegan.  The cream filling is actually vegetable shortening and sugar.  Dunk ‘em in a tall glass of soy milk and have a nostalgic moment.

Oreville Redenbacher’s Lime and Salt Popcorn.

- These are my new addiction.  Just the perfect amount of lime and salt and when you microwave the bag, everyone in your house or your building will say “what smells so good!”  Eat only if you are prepared to have people begging you for a taste.

Skittles.

- If you’ve been vegan a long time you might remember that up until last year Skittles contained gelatin which is the boiled bones and hooves of cows.  In a brilliant move that didn’t effect the flavor or consistency of the candy in the slightest, Skittles removed the cruelty from the candy.  The new packages reads “gelatin free.”

Pop-tarts.

- Just because you can eat them for breakfast does not mean they are good for you but Pop-tarts are great.  My toaster even has a built in Pop-tart setting I love these things so much.  If you are a vegetarian or vegan though you should know that ALL frosted Pop-tarts contain boiled bones and hooves in the form of gelatin.  If you want to eat veg then get the UNFROSTED versions.  Unfrosted are much less-worse for you and they are cruelty-free.

None of this stuff is good for you so please be a stereotypical vegan and eat a damn salad once in a while too.
