France Bans Vegan Meals In Schools.

France Bans Vegan Meals In Schools.

french vegans

The French government has issued an order which mandates that all lunches served in public and private school cafeterias must contain animal products.

Arguing that animal products are part of a balanced diet, the French government has ruled that every public and private school in the nation must serve meat and/or dairy with every meal. No longer will students be given the option of eating vegetarian or vegan meals at school and students who wish to avoid animal products will be forced to bring their lunches from home. An odd mandate, seeing as French citizens fund the school with their tax dollars and they should at least be allowed the option of buying a school lunch sans viande.

Many in France are concerned that the new law violates the Charter of Fundamental Rights of the European Union which clearly states that all citizens of the EU have the right to practice freedom of personal choice. By forcing vegetarian and vegan school children, without the resources to bring their own lunches, to choose between non-vegetarian meals or hunger, the French government could be violating the Charter.

It’s clear the issue is more about defending tradition and the “French System” more than anything. In 2010, French agriculture minister, Bruno Lemarie, said laws like this latest one are designed to defend the French agricultural model against vegetarian advocates. By indoctrinating kids to believe the only healthy diet is one filled with animals helps promote the preservation of French animal agriculture.

France is home to the finest grains, fattiest olives, and most incredible mushrooms in the world. The French government sells their country short when they declare meat and cheese as the representatives of French agriculture.

We know from history that that only reason a government ever steps in to limit choice is when they are afraid of what people will choose. Maybe this is sign that we’re winning. La grande revolution vegetalien!
