Veg Dating Site Mostly Meat Eaters.

Yet another controversy is set to hit the vegan community, this time in the UK. Online dating site VeggieDates.co.uk, which links vegans and vegetarians with like-minded companions, has been exposed as a fraud.

A complaint filed to the Advertising Standards Authority (ASA) caused the dating site to reveal that the majority of Veggiedates users are not actually vegan or vegetarian. The reason is that Veggiedates shares common database with several other non-veg dating sites and currently has no way for users to search exclusively for potential veg matches.

While a dating site pulling from an outside pool of candidates is not against the rules, false advertising is. Even though Veggiedates never stated that their site was exclusive to the veg-curious, calling themselves “a trusted UK vegetarian online dating agency” gave that impression. It’s kind of like when Walmart says they’re the largest organic grocery store in the world.

The ASA has demanded that Veggiedates clarify their terms of service and tweak their advertising so that anyone using the site is aware of the broad field of potential candidates. Because people are paying Veggiedates $40 a month to locate a pool of potential veg partners, the company needs to be honest about where their candidates are coming from.

While vegans looking for love on Veggiedates got the shaft, meat eaters really lucked out by getting access to all the vegan hotties.
